Five Rochester players smack homers in the 14-3 victory over the Mud Hens.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings (Plates) beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 14-3, Thursday night before a crowd of 5,924 fans at Frontier Field.

It did not take long for the Plates to score as Taylor Motter hit a lead-off home run, his fifth of the year in the bottom of the first off Mud Hens starting pitcher Phillippe Aumont to give the Red Wings an early 1-0 lead. The Wings added to their lead after a sacrifice fly from Kennys Vargas that scored Nick Gordon from third making the score 2-0. Next batter, Jon Kemmer, hit a 2-run home run, his second of the year that also scored Tyler Austin, giving the Plates a 4-0 lead.

The Wings extended their lead in the bottom of the second after Austin hit a 3-run home run, his ninth of the year which scored Jeremy Hazelbaker and Motter, making the score 7-0.

The Mud Hens answered in the top of the third against Plates starting pitcher, Stephen Gonsalves after Kade Scivicque hit an RBI double, making the score 7-1.

Paul Voelker replaced Aumont in the top of the third. Aumont finished with 2.0 innings thrown, allowed 4 hits, 7 earned runs, 3 walks and had 2 strikeouts. Aumont threw 54 pitches, 31 for strikes.

The Red Wings added to their lead in the bottom of the third after an error in the infield scored Vargas, making the score 8-1. Later in the inning, Kemmer scored on an infield ground ball to make the score 9-1. Hazelbaker added a 2-run home run, his second of the year that scored Edgar Corcino, making the score 11-1.

Rochester scored in the bottom of the fourth after a sacrifice fly from Vargas which scored Austin, making the score 12-1.

The Mud Hens scored in the top of the sixth after an RBI double from Dawel Lugo, making the score 12-2. Lugo would come into score after a wild pitch making the score 12-3.

The Wings added to the lead in the bottom of the sixth after a 2-run home run by Vargas, his 15th of the year to make the score 14-3.

Jake Reed replaced Gonsalves in the top of the seventh inning. Gonsalves finished with 6.0 innings thrown, allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks, and had 9 strikeouts. Gonsalves threw 98 pitches, 65 for strikes.

Reed worked 2 perfect innings with 4 strikeouts. Ryne Harper pitched the ninth inning, allowing a single and fanning one batter.

The Wings out-hit the Mud Hens 11-4. Austin finished a double short of the cycle, and scored 3 runs while driving in 3.

*NOTES — The Red Wings set season high for home runs in a game with 5, as well as a season high for runs with 14.
