ALLENTOWN, PA. — The Rochester Red Wings fall 9-1 to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park. Rochester is now 6-11 versus Lehigh Valley this season.
RHP Sterling Sharp went 5.2 innings and gave up five earned runs while striking out just three Bacon men. Sharp pitched much better than his stat line may lead one to believe. The Nationals’ prospect went 4.2 scoreless innings after giving up three runs in the first, before giving up a two-out single to make the score 5-0 IronPigs in the bottom of the 6th. Sharp threw a season-high 99 pitches in the loss.
After three-straight days with double-digit hits, the Wings were stifled by Lehigh Valley pitching. Tonight’s performance marks the sixth time the Red Wings had been held to one or fewer runs against the IronPigs this season.
RF Josh Palacios propelled the offense going 3-for-4 with three singles. Palacios has recorded a hit in each game of the series and multiple hits in each of his last three games, as he extends his on-base streak to 18 games.
