Justin Haley hurls Rochester to a 4-1 victory over the IronPigs.

ALLENTOWN, PA. — The Rochester Red Wings held off a ninth inning threat to beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 4-1, on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Justin Haley (1-0) pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win as he struck out two and allowed three hits.

Lehigh Valley had runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth, but reliever Jake Reed worked out of difficult as he struck out Rhys Hoskins to end the game.

The Red Wings got on the board first with a run in the third inning. After hitting a single, Bengie Gonzalez advanced to second on a walk by Engelb Vielma, went to third on an out, and then scored on a wild pitch.

Rochester added a run in the fifth innning when Edgar Corcino triple and scored on Bengie Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly. The Wings tallied a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Matt Hague doubled and ByungHo Park was hit by a pitch. J.B. Shuck beat out a bunt to load the bases. Hague and Park scampered home when Corcino reached on an error to complete the Rochester scoring.

The IronPigs cut into the deficit in the ninth inning, collecting 3 hits off Reed before the final out was recorded.

The series resumes on Saturday with a 6:35 pm start.
