ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings played spoiler against the Syracuse Mets with a 6-1 victory Friday night at Frontier Field.

The loss kept the Mets (73-64) from taking sole possession of first place in the North Division, with 3 games to play, as the Buffalo Bisons rallied for an 8-7 victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (73-64) Friday night in Moosic, PA.

The Red Wings never trailed as they scored single runs in the first and second innings, including Zander Wiel’s 24th round-tripper of the season in the second.

The Mets cut the lead in half in the sixth, but the Wings responded with 2 runs in the home half and put the game away with 2 runs in the eighth.

Syracuse loaded the bases loaded in the ninth inning but could not score.

Brandon Barnes added to his International League leading RBI total as the Red Wings centerfielder collected 2 to bring his season total to 94.

Rochester used 6 pitchers in the game as Brusdar Graterol gained the win.
