Rochester loses again to the RailRiders, but still holds 3-game lead over LV in wild card race.

MOOSIC, PA. — Despite another defeat to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday night, the Rochester Red Wings kept their 3-game lead over Lehigh Valley in the chase for the International League’s wild card plaoyoff spot.

Rochester fell 8-1 to the RailRiders, but the IronPigs lost their second straight game in Syracuse to the Chiefs, 4-1, on Tuesday. Both teams have 6 games remaining in the regular season as the Wings magic number is now 4.

Miguel Andujar hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and Wilkin Castillo hit a three-run home run and had two hits to pace the RailRiders.

SWB added four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to ice the victory.

Hector Santiago started the game for Rochester on a rehab assignment from the Minnesota Twin. Chris Heston (0-3) took the loss in relief for the Red Wings.

Scranton/WB improved to 10-5 against Rochester this season.

*NOTES — Leonardo Reginatto leads the International League in batting average (.385) and on-base percentage (.48) since August 4 while raising his average to .304. Reginatto is batting a Rochester-best .328 (22-for-67) with runners in scoring position this season and delivered the game-deciding RBI in two games last week…Rochester and Scranton/WB are currently tied atop the International League with a 3.32 ERA. A Red Wings team has not led the league in ERA since the 1976 squad posted a 3.51 mark…Rochester is 55-15 when scoring first and leads the International League with a .786 winning percentage when plating the first run this season. The Red Wings had scored the game’s first run a league-low 24 times (18-6) through June 10. Since then, Rochester has scored the first run in 46 of 75 games while going 37-9 in those, though the Wings have dropped five of their last 13 games when scoring first.
