Rochester blows a 3-run lead and loses for the 3rd straight time in 10 innings to the IronPigs.
ALLENTOWN, PA. — The Lehigh Valley IronPigs’ home walk-off streak was stretched to four games on Sunday as the Pigs swept the Rochester Red Wings with a 7-6 victory. With the win, the IronPigs maintain their IL North lead and enter the All-Star Break with a 52-36 record.
Rochester enters the break with a 41-44 slate.
The Red Wings took the lead in the first on a Kennys Vargas RBI single that plated Bryon Buxton.
However, the hosts answered with a 2-run homer by Mitch Walding in the home half off Rochester starter Fernando Romero.
Leonardo Reginatto belted a 2-run homer in the fifth to put the Wings back in front, 3-2. In the 7th, Nick Gordon doubled home Juan Greaterol and LaMonte Wade’s RBI single gave Rochester a 5-2 advantage.
But once again the IronPigs staged a late rally to send the game into extra innings with a run in the 8th, and 2 in the 9th, off reliever John Curtis with 2 outs, to even the count at 5-5 and send the contest into extra innings for the third straight game.
Vargas once again put the Wings in front with a RBI single in the 10th to score Gordon.
But down to their final strike in the bottom of the 10th, Joey Meneses singled off of the wall in right field off Tyler Duffey to score the tying and winning runs for the ‘Pigs.
*NOTES — The Red Wings have the next 3 days off for the Triple-A All-Star Break. Rochester pitcher Nick Anderson will represent the Wings in the all-star game…The Red Wings continue their road trip following the all-star break with a 4-game series against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre… The team returns to Frontier Field on July 16 vs. Louisville.
