Reynaldo Rodriguez records 2 of Rochester’s 4 hits against the IronPigs.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the third time in the past 7 days, the Rochester Red Wings were shut out by the opposition. The Red Wings lost, 3-0, to Lehigh Valley on Saturday night before 9,546 fans at Frontier Field.
Rochester (62-47) remains in third place in the North Division, now 4 games behind the Lehigh Valley (65-42) for the International League Wild Card berth, and 6 games behind North Division leader Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (67-40).
The series with the IronPigs concludes with a Sunday matinee, first pitch at 1:35.
“This is a big series, you can’t deny that,” said Red Wings manager Mike Quade. “This is a very good club…We’ve played well at home. We played very well (Friday) night. I thought we play well tonight, we just didn’t hit.”
Nick Greenwood (2-2) started on the mound for the Wings, scattering 7 hits, but 2 came in the second inning, including a leadoff homer, when Lehigh Valley scored all its runs.
The IronPigs converted 2 walks into runs on a RBI single and a suicide squeeze for their 3-0 lead.
Reynaldo Rodriguez collected half of Rochester’s 4 hits with a single in the 2nd and a double in the 7th. It was his first home game appearance since his 80-game suspension ended on July 22.
“It’s good to see him getting back on track,” Quade said. “He struggled a little bit before he left. His previous at bats were okay, and he’s got a history of hitting this club pretty well.”
*NOTES – INF Tommy Field went0-for-4, snapping a 22-game streak of reaching base safely…Rochester turned four double plays in the game, in the third, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings.
