Rochester belts 5 homers in 10-2 win over the S-Mets.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings smashed five home runs Tuesday in a 10-2 beat down of the Syracuse Mets in game one of their week-long, 7-game set in the Salt City.
Keibert Ruiz and Daniel Palka each hit two homers and Mike Ford added a three-run moon shot in his first game with the team.
Ruiz and Palka went back-to-back in the first inning to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead. Palka’s second of the night in the third inning made it 4-0.
Ford’s blast came in the seventh inning and made it 8-0.
Ruiz and Palka – hitting second and third in the lineup – went a combined 7-for-10 with four homers, six RBI and five runs scored.
Overshadowed by all the offense was starter Josh Rogers who tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings allowing just four hits and a walk.
The Wings have now won six of their last eight games and look to keep rolling in Wednesday’s twin bill in Syracuse.
Wed.’s twinbill time moved up
The Syracuse Mets have moved up Wednesday’s doubleheader against Rochester at NBT Bank Stadium to 4:35 p.m.
The teams will play two, seven-inning games with roughly 30 minutes between.
The Red Wings began a seven-game, six-day series starting today through Aug. 29 before returning home for a six-game series against Worcester from Aug, 31-Sept. 5
