Leonardo Reginatto ripped a bases-loaded double to score 3 runs and cap a 4-run eighth inning as the Rochester Red Wings posted a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Sunday night in Allentown, PA.
Trailing 2-1 entering the eighth, Mitch Garver doubled home pinch-runner Heiker Meneses with the tying run with one out. Meneses ran for Kennys Vargas, who drew a leadoff walk before Reynaldo Rodriguez singled. Tommy Field walked to load the bases for Reginatto.
Edward Mujica pitched the ninth for the Wings against his former teammates, and though he gave up one run, Mujica picked up his 26th save of the season.
Omar Bencomo started on the mound for Rochester and hurled 6 innings, giving up 2 runs, walking 1, and striking out 4 hitters. Alan Busenitz (2-0) received the ‘W’ as he pitched the 1.2 innings, yielding 1 run.
Rookie center fielder Tanner English collected his first two hits as a Red Wing since he called up from Single-A Ft. Myers on Thursday to replace Byron Buxton, who was recalled by the Minnesota Twins.
Vargas, Garver, and Reginatto also each collected 2 hits in the game for the Wings.
Rochester (81-62) closes out the regular season with a Monday matinee against Lehigh Valley as the IronPigs will continue on to the Governor’s Cup playoffs as the Wild Card team.
