The Rochester Red Wings rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Gwinnett Braves, 5-3, on Monday night in Georgia.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Tommy Field returned to the lineup tonight and belted a solo homer for Rochester’s first run.
Byron Buxton led off with a single. Field was hit by a pitch, and Reynaldo Rodriguez drew a walk to load the bases with none out. Kennys Vargas walked to force in Buxton to tie the game. Adam Brett Walker lofted a sacrifice fly to put the Wings in front. Logan Schafer delivered a RBI hit for a 4-2 advantage.
The G-Braves got one run back in the home half against Rochester starter Andrew Albers (10-6). He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 3 runs and 8 hits while striking out 7 batters.
The Wings added an insurance run in the eighth when John Ryan Murphy singled home Wilfredo Tovar, who had reached on a single and moved to second when James Beresford singled.
Rochester (72-58) picked up a full game on Lehigh Valley (76-52) for the International League Wild Card berth when the IronPigs lost to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 5-3, on Monday night.
