Ryan Lamarre collects 3 extra base hits and 4 RBI in pacing Rochester to a 9-1 win over the Chiefs.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Ryan Lamarre made his Frontier Field debut with the Rochester Red Wings and sparked the team to a 9-1 victory over the Syracuse Chiefs on Tuesday night before 3,513 fans.

Lamarre was assigned to the Red Wings on May 10 by the Minnesota Twins. The outfielder tripled in Zack Granite with the game’s first run in the 3-run first inning for Rochester. He crossed the plate on a double by Jake Cave, who scored the final run on a sacrifice fly from Brock Stassi.

“It was nice, any time you can get on the board early,” LaMarre said. “The hit’s great but getting the RBI, putting us up 1-0, and then (Jake) Cave came through and got that double right after me. I felt like we were in attack mode right from there and I feel like it really helped us set the tone for the rest of the night.”

Twins General Manager Thad Levine made his first visit to Rochester since taking over the job. The club responded with its largest hit output of the season.

“If we keep getting 19 hits we might have to keep him here for a little longer than he probably planned on,” LaMarre said with a smile. “We’ll have to check his schedule.”

Rochester plated solo runs in the 5th and 7th innings sandwiched around a 4-run 6th.

Red Wings starting pitcher Aaron Slegers earned his 4th win in 5 decisions as he hurled 6 innings of 3-hit ball.

“It’s always nice when they put the ball in play early in counts,” said Slegers. “And with the defense we had out there, it makes it really easy on me. Everything that was put on the ground was an out, which was really fun; some double plays. Those guys are really hitting their stride (defensively).

“It does a lot for the confidence- it does a lot for the ballclub too. Putting up runs in the first inning and then getting the guys back in the dugout and they put up that three-spot like they do in the first, that game was off to a pretty positive start.”

Cave, Kennys Vargas, Jermaine Curtiss, Stassi, and Taylor Featherston each had 2 hits.

“It was just one of those nights where everybody contributed,” said Red Wings manager Joel Skinner. “I think the big part of tonight’s game was our defense was really solid. Our outfield defense took away some extra-base hits from them early and late, and then we were able to turn a couple double plays so it all worked together tonight.”
