Rochester rallies to take the lead, but then gives it right back in the 7-5 loss.
The Rochester Red Wingsdropped the first game of a 4-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday night in Rhode Island.
The first two runs of the game were both driven home by Chris Marrero against Rochester starter Nick Greenwood, a Connecticut native and University of Rhode Island graduate.
Trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning, Daniel Palka walked. Adam Brett Walker ripped a double to center field as Palka scampered around the base paths to score.
The Wings utilized the long ball to take the lead in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Palka drew another walk. Walker followed this time with a line drive homer over the left field fence to tie the game. Byung Ho Park came up next and put the Wings ahead, 4-3, with a home run over the right field fence.
However, the PawSox regained the lead, 7-4, with 4 runs off reliever D.J. Baxendale in the bottom of the sixth.
The Red Wings final run came in the ninth
Rochester (60-44) lost a half game on Internaltional League North Division leader Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (64-38) and now trail the Yankees by 5 games, and second place Lehigh Valley (61-41) by 2 games.
Pawtuket lefthander Henry Owens (6-5, 4.20) is scheduled to make the start against Rochester lefty Andrew Albers (9-3, 3.14).
In roster moves, INF Reynaldo Rodriguez was transferred to Rochester from Single-A Ft. Myers, where he was assigned following his 80-game suspension for violation of the drug policy. Rodriguez pinch-hit in the ninth and struck out.
LHP Logan Darnell was placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain.
