Rochester falls back another game in the Wild Card chase with the IronPigs.
ALLENTOWN, PA. — The Rochester Red Wings dropped to 4.5 games behind Lehigh Valley IronPigs for the International League Wild Card berth following a 7-2 defeat on Saturday night in Allentown, PA.
Lehigh Valley (69-45) picked up the game the IronPigs lost yesterday to Rochester (65-50) as the hosts jumped on Red Wings starter Andrew Albers (9-5) for 3 runs in the first inning.
The IronPigs tacked on a pair in the fourth before the visitors finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh on a solo homer from Trevor Plouffe, who is on a rehab assignment from the parent Minnesota Twins.
Lehigh Valley answered with 2 runs in the eighth before the Wings got a RBI double by Plouffe in the ninth to score Tommy Field.
The series concludes on Sunday with a matinee game. The Wings are off on Monday then travel for a 3-game series in Syracuse against the Chiefs starting Tuesday.
