ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings lost to the Worcester Red Sox, 4-2, in the series opener at Frontier Field Tuesday night.

RHP Anibal Sanchez, on a rehab assignment from the Washington Nationals, gave up three hits and two runs in 2 2/3 innings in his first Red Wings start.

Worcester’s Ronaldo Hernandez logged a pair of RBI in the first and third innings as the Sox jumped to a 3-0 lead. C Tres Barrera reached on a fielder’s choice in the fourth to score DH Nick Banks, and 2B Jake Noll hit a homer in the sixth to make it 3-2, Woo Sox. RHP Matt Brill saw the mound in the eighth and gave up the fourth and final run before RHP Patrick Murphy closed it out.

RF Donovan Casey was the only multi-hit performer for the Wings in the loss, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Tuesday’s loss was the first against the Woo Sox all season, as the Wings swept Worcester in six games in their May series. The Wings now own a record of 4-9 in series openers and have lost five straight openers dating back to May 30 against Buffalo. Rochester also blew a chance to make-up ground on first place in the IL East, as Buffalo (first place) and Lehigh Valley (third place) both lost their Tuesday games.

Rochester will host game two of the series tomorrow night and will send RHP Cade Cavalli to the mound first. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
