Rochester falls to the Durham Bulls, 5-3.
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL. — The Rochester Red Wings dropped a 5–3 spring training decision to the Durham Bulls Thursday afternoon in Port Charlotte, FL.
Starting pitcher Yohan Pino allowed two runs on a hit and a walk with four strikeouts over 4.0 solid innings for the Red Wings (1–1).
Alex Cobb started for Durham to stay on schedule as Tampa Bay had the day off. The righty cruised through the first four innings before Rochester scored three runs, two charged to Cobb, in the 5th to take a 3–2 lead. Alex Perez, Ryan Strausborger and Levi Michael tallied an RBI apiece.
The Bulls regained the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th with three runs against D.J. Baxendale, who surrendered four hits and a walk while striking out one.
Ryan Eades (1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 SO), Seth Rosin (1.0 IP, 1 SO) and Trevor Hildenberger (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) all tossed scoreless relief innings in defeat.
No Rochester hitter finished with more than one knock as the Wings were held to just six hits in the game, three after Cobb departed.
Rochester hosts Norfolk in Ft. Myers on Friday at noon.
