ALLENTOWN, PA. — Friday night’s Rochester Red Wings game at Lehigh Valley has been postponed due to rain.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 at 5:35 p.m. RHP Chase De Jong will start game one for the Red Wings and a bullpen game will be used in game two.
This is the first postponement for the Wings in 2019. Rochester had 15 weather-related delays, suspensions, or postponements in 2018.
*NOTES — Last season Rochester finished under .500 for the first time since 2011 and finished the year 64-76. The Red Wings were tied for fourth in the International League North Division. The Red Wings led the IL with a 3.39 ERA in 2018. It marked the first time a Rochester team had the lowest ERA in the league since the 1976 squad posted a 3.51 mark. The bullpen pitched to a collective 2.70 ERA last year. Rochester set a franchise-record with 67 different players and a franchise-record 37 position players in 2018. The Red Wings had 38 players register a plate appearance in 1960 and 1945, 37 in 1968 and 1946 and 36 in 1959 but those totals included pitchers who received at least one plate appearance. The Red Wings finished 29-41 (.414) at home, the fewest home wins and lowest home winning percentage since the 1999 Rochester team went 28-44 (.389) at Frontier Field. 2018 also marked the first time a Wings team was under .500 at home since 2011 (32-40)…Rochester opens the season with 13 pitchers, 12 position players, and 4 players on the Injured List. Three players will make their Triple-A debuts with their first appearance: Randy César, Luke Raley, and Brent Rooker. Tyler Duffey, Jake Reed, and Fernando Romero are the only players who were on the Wings Opening Day roster last season…Joel Skinner is set to manage his second season with the Red Wings. Joel and his father Bob, are one of three father-son tandems to both manage in the bigs.
