Nick Buss’s 3-run homer holds up in the 3-1 win over the RailRiders.
MOOSIC, PA. — The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders pitching staff struck out a season-high 14 batters in a 3-1 loss against the Rochester Red Wings on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.
Rochester (16-15) scored first in the top of the second inning, when Kennys Vargas and Wynston Sawyer drove singles off Daniel Camarena ahead of a 3-run home run from Nick Buss.
The big fly was the only blemish against the southpaw in the game, who lasted 5.1 innings yielding just the three runs on 4 hits, walking 3, and striking out 8 batters. The 8 strikeouts were a Triple-A career-high for Camarena (2-2).
In the bottom of the third, Clint Frazier got the RailRiders on the board with a mammoth solo home run off Miles Jaye to narrow the gap to 3-1. The round tripper was Frazier’s third of the season, and second in as many contest.
Jaye (2-2) hurled 5 innings, scattering 8 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2 in earning the win. Jake Reed and Alan Busenitz each received a Hold as John Curtiss picked up the Save, his second of the season. Reed and curtis each fanned 2 RailRiders as Busenitz struck out 3 hitters.
*NOTES — Rochester is 11-1 when scoring 4 or more runs…The Red Wings have been shutout 4 times already after being blanked 8 times in 2017…The Red Wings are off Monday and begin a 6-game homestand, on Tuesday at 7:05 pm, with a 3-game series versus the Syracuse Chiefs.
