Rochester notches a 3-2 victory over the G-Braves.
The Rochester Red Wings struck for three runs over the first two innings and held on for a 3-2 victory over the Gwinnett Braves on Sunday afternoon at Coolray Field.
Byron Buxton got the Red Wings off on the right foot, lacing a triple to left-center on the game’s first pitch from Stephen Janas (L, 2-2) and scoring one batter later on an infield single by Wilfredo Tovar.
Janas yielded three more singles in the second inning, including RBI singles to Logan Schafer and Leonardo Reginatto as Rochester raised the lead to 3-0.
Schafer added a double as the only other extra base hit for Rochester.
Nick Greenwood (5-3) hurled 8 innings, yielding 5 hits, including 2 solo home runs, while striking out 4 batters.
Reliever Alan Busenitz made his debut as a Red Wing as he earned his first Triple-A save.
The G-Braves and Red Wings conclude the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night at Coolray Field.
Rochester (71-58) picked up a half game on Lehigh Valley (76-52) for the Wild Card berth as the IronPigs game in Syracuse was cancelled due to inclement weather.
