Rochester drops its third straight game to the RailRiders as the IronPigs win to gain a game.
MOOSIC, PA. — The Rochester Red Wings lost their third straight game to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 8-4, on Wednesday night. The defeat, combined with Lehigh Valley’s 7-4 victory over Syracuse cut the Wings lead in the International League’s wild card race to 2 games. Both teams have 5 games remaining.
A pair of 4-run innings, including a two-run double by Ji-Man Choi, did the damage for the RailRiders. SWB tacked on four runs in the seventh when Miguel Andujar hit a sacrifice fly and Tyler Austin belted a 3-run home run to secure the victory.
The Red Wings scored 3 in the sixth when Niko Goodrum hit a two-run triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Recker. They added 1 in the eighth.
Jonathan Holder got ByungHo Park to hit into a double play in the seventh inning to thwart a potential rally for Rochester. The double play came with runners on first and third and prevented the Red Wings from scoring in the inning.
Rochester reliever Stephen Gonsalves (1-2) took the loss. Adalberto Mejia started the game for the Wings on his MLB rehab assignment from the Minnesota Twins. He hurled 3 innings of 2-hit ball as he struck out 4 batters.
With the victory, Scranton/WB improved to 11-5 against Rochester this season.
