Rochester is held to just 4 hits in the 5-2 loss to the Bats.
LOUISVILLE, KY. — The Rochester Red Wings bid for a second straight win over Louisville was thwarted Saturday night as the Bats topped the Wings, 5-2.
The Bats took the 2-0 lead on a pair of solo homers as Steve Selsky and Taylor Sparks took Wings starter DJ Baxendale deep in the second and third innings, respectively.
The Wings (46-56) fought back in the sixth as Gregorio Petit tied the game with a 2-out, 2-strike, 2-run single to right that scored Jeremy Hazelbaker and Taylor Motter.
But the Bats struck for a run in the seventh and 2 in the eighth off Alan Busenitz to take the lead for good.
Trevor May relieved Baxendale and tossed 2 scoreless innings for Rochester to extend his scoreless streak to 9.1 innings.
The Wings managed just 4 hits on the night.
The Wings 6-game west division road swing concludes on Sunday evening at 6 pm. The Red Wings return to Rochester on Monday to open a 4-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
*NOTES — In roster moves Saturday, INF Taylor Motter was active after being outrighted by the Minnesota Twins on July 27; and INF Miguel Sanó and LHP Gabriel Moya were recalled by Minnesota, following trades by the Twins…Byron Buxton has now hit 8 leadoff homers in 84 career games with the Red Wings. Buxton has 2 of Rochester’s 3 leadoff homers (also Taylor Motter) this season…Rochester is last in the International League with 336 runs scored and 3.33 runs per game this season. The Red Wings are on pace to score 465 runs which would be the lowest run total and runs per game average by a Rochester team since at least 1979.
