Kennys Vargas hits Rochester’s team-leading 12th homer of the season.

ALLENTOWN, PA. — For the second consecutive night, the Rochester Red Wings fell in extra innings.

On Saturday, Logan Moore lifted a fly ball to deep left field with the bases loaded and no outs in the 11th inning to plate the winning run in a 4-3 Lehigh Valley IronPigs win at Coca-Cola Park .

The Wings (41-43) failed to score in both extra frames with the “ghost runner” at second base as they fall 8.5 GB of first place Lehigh Valley.

Kennys Vargas gave the Wings the lead with a 2-run homer in the sixth inning – his team-leading 12th of the season. Since the calendar flipped to July, Vargas is 10-for-26 (.385) with 3 homers and 7 RBI.

The IronPigs tied the game off DJ Baxendale in the seventh on a Ryan Goins RBI single and an RBI fielder’s choice by Mitch Walding.

Zack Littell deserved better than the no decision, going 6 innings allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts.

Gregorio Petit gave the Wings a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single, but Petit left the game after a base hit in the sixth inning with an apparent injury.

The Wings wrap up the first half of the season at 1:35 Sunday. Fernando Romero (2-1, 1.93) makes the start for Rochester opposite RHP Tom Eshelman (1-7, 6.28) for LV.

*NOTES — In roster moves Saturday, OF Jon Kemmer was actived after being acquired from Houston for cash considerations on July 6. Kemmer had spent the entire season playing for Triple-A Fresno. He was hitting .254 with 13 homers and 44 RBI for Fresno in the Pacific Coast League prior to being acquired by the Twins. To make room on the active roster for him, 1B Chris Carter was released. Carter hit just .187 with Rochester with 7 homers in 36 games; additionally, INF Taylor Motter, who was optioned to Rochester on July 6 but not yet active, has been transferred to Double-A Chattanooga…Kennys Vargas is batting .409 (9-for-22) with 4 doubles, 2 homers, 5 RBI, and 4 runs scored in 5 games to begin July…Gregorio Petit has reached base safely in 15 of his last 16 games since June 17 and hit safely in 7 of his last 8 since June 28…The Red Wings were 28-6 when scoring first entering play on June 23 but are just 6-6 in such games since…Rochester was 26-4 when simply outhitting opponents this season on June 24 but is 5-3 in such games since…The Wings have lost 5 straight extra-inning games after starting the season 5-2 in extra innings.
