MOOSIC, PA. — The Rochester Red Wings took on the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field on Tuesday night and lost the game, 3-1.
Scranton Wilkes-Barre jumped out in front 2-0 in the first inning. C Kevin Plawecki hit an RBI single in the second scoring 1B Travis Blankenhorn in the top half of the second to cut the Scranton lead to one. Plawecki attempted to tie the game on a 2B Darren Baker single, but was thrown out at home and the score remained 2-1.
The Wings were called out at the plate again in the sixth inning as DH Jake Alu tried to score on a 3B Chad Pinder single and Rochester trailed by one after six innings.
The RailRiders scored their third run of the game in the eighth inning, pushing the lead to two runs. Rochester bats were not able to cross the plate in the final two frames, as the Wings drop the series opener, 3-1.
RHP Joan Adon (1-3, 4.35) started on the mound for the Wings and worked six innings, striking out four batters and allowing two runs on six hits. RHP Gerson Moreno and LHP Jose A. Ferrer pitched the remaining two innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits. LHP Tanner Tully (2-1) earned the win for Scranton.
The Diamond Pro Player of the Game is RHP Joan Adon, who recorded the Wings first quality start of the year, allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The Wings continue their series in Scranton, Wednesday as RHP Odalvi Javier (0-0, 10.38) makes his first start (6th appearance) of the season, against the RailRiders’ RHP Mitch Spence (1-2, 7.97). First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
