Rochester can’t overcome pair of three-run frames.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Leonardo Reginatto celebrated his 27th birthday with a 3-for-4 day that included his first Triple-A home run but the Buffalo Bisons scored three runs in the 2nd and 8th innings to beat the Rochester Red Wings, 9-4, Monday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.

The matchup featured a pair of 3-0 squads after the Red Wings swept a three-game series with the Syracuse Chiefs and the Bisons took all three games from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders over the weekend.

Buffalo took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd against Jason Wheeler (0-1) after a passed ball brought in Mike Ohlman and a single by Jason Leblebijian drove in two runs. Leblebijian added a solo homer off Wheeler in the 4th to make it 4-0.

Rochester had limited opportunities against Bisons left-hander T.J. House (1-0). The Wings did load the bases with two outs in the 5th but didn’t score. House scattered two hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5.0 scoreless innings. Wheeler was charged for four runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 5.0 frames.

The Red Wings cut the deficit in half after Reginatto’s solo homer and an RBI single by Niko Goodrum made it 4-2 in the 7th. Buffalo answered with two runs in bottom half of the inning, aided by a wild pitch, to extend the deficit to 6-2. Reginatto doubled to score a run in the 8th but the Bisons responded again in the bottom half with three runs to make it 9-3. ByungHo Park added an RBI double in the 9th to make it 9-4.

Juan Gaterol and Leblebijian each finished 3-for-4 for Buffalo. Reginatto and Kennys Vargas (2-for-5) both had multi-hit efforts for the Wings.

Berrios named IL Pitcher of the Week

Rochester Red Wings right-hander Jose Berrios has been named the International League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Berrios started on Opening Day, April 8 at Syracuse and tossed 6.0 scoreless innings while surrendering three hits and one walk while striking out seven to earn the win. He was lifted after a lengthy top of the 7th inning as the Red Wings batted around and scored six runs. Berrios tossed 77 pitches, 48 for strikes.

This is the second IL Pitcher of the Week award for Berrios, who earned the honor for the week ending July 3, 2016. A Rochester pitcher has earned a weekly award a league-high nine times since the beginning of 2015.
