ST. PAUL, MN. — The Rochester Red Wings blew a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning, as they dropped their third straight game to the St. Paul Saints, 4-3, Thursday night.
RHPs Logan Verrett, Patrick Murphy, and Tyler Clippard held St. Paul scoreless through nine until RHP Reed Garrett gave up two homers in the final two at-bats to give the Saints the win. There were two outs when St. Paul hit the walk-off game-winner.
St. Paul’s Spencer Steer and John Andreoli played hero ball in the bottom of the ninth, smoking two homers off Garrett to complete the comeback win over a struggling Rochester squad. Tonight’s botched lead was Rochester’s second loss of the season in the final at-bat. It was also the first time Rochester has lost a game this season after leading in the seventh or eighth inning.
The loss gives Rochester its first three-game losing streak since April 10-14 against Toledo and Buffalo.
RHP Cade Cavalli, winner of two straight, will pitch first in Friday night’s game as the Wings look to win their first game in this tough series.
