The terms were not announced but the agreement is for 10 years with an option for 10 more years.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Representatives from Monroe County and the Rochester Red Wings held a joint news conference Tuesday afternoon at Frontier Field to announce a lease agreement has been reached that will keep the team at Frontier Field.

The agreement is a 10-year lease with the option for a second 10 years to be mutually agreed on.

The current 20-year lease, which expires at the end of this season, allowed for a deficit of roughly $1.3 million a year and was not sustainable.

Rochester Community Baseball, which owns the Red Wings, wanted to control more income from concessions and parking and pay a flat rent, slightly higher than the average $1 million a year it pays now.

The county wanted to double the rent to $2 million.

Neither side would give details of the agreement, or whether the structure of the finances will change.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo also would not say if taxpayers will subsidize the operations at Frontier Field.

This is an agreement in principal. Some details still have to be worked out. All of the details will be released before this is presented to the Monroe County Legislature.
