An unearned run proves to be the difference in the 3-2 loss to the G-Braves.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings attempt for a second straight come-from-behind victory came up short on Wednesday afternoon against the Gwinnett Braves before 3,040 spectators on Businessman’s Special at Frontier Field.
The Braves scored an unearned run in the first inning, and added two more in the third on three hits off Rochester starter David Hulburt.
The Red Wings squandered opportunity in the first with two men on base and one out. Cleanup hitter Matt Hague struck out and Daniel Palka grounded out to second to end the threat.
Rochester broke through in the third with two outs. Niko Goodrum, who belted the game-winning 2-run homer Tuesday night, worked a walk. Goodrum broke for second and batter John Ryan Murphy ripped a double to left to plate Goodrum.
The Wings final opportunity came in the seventh. Murphy led off with a double to left-center. With one out, Ehire Adrianza, who is here on a rehab assigned from the Minnesota Twins, laced a RBI single. However, the Wings were unable to advance him beyond second base. The Braves bullpen retired the final seven batters to secure the victory.
*NOTES – INF Ehire Adrianza went 2-for-5 as part of his rehab assignment from the Twins…Former National League MVP and Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Ryan Howard went 0-for-4 for the Braves, after recently signing a minor league deal with Atlanta.
