Rochester commits 4 errors in the 9-4 loss to the Chiefs.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Though the Rochester Red Wings lost 9-4 to the Syracuse Chiefs on Saturday night, the Wings did not lose any ground to Lehigh Valley as the IronPigs lost to the Buffalo Bisons. Lehigh Valley (67-46) still maintains a 3-game lead over Rochester (64-49) for the International League’s wild card berth.
Michael Almanzar had three hits and two RBI to lead the Chiefs.
The Red Wings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a solo homer by Mitch Garver and a RBI double by ByungHo Park that scored Kennys Vargas, who reached via a double. The Chiefs took the lead for good with five runs in the home half against Wings starter David Hurlbut (8-6). Almanzar hit a two-run single en route to the three-run lead.
The Chiefs later added two runs in both the fourth and seventh innings.
For the Red Wings, Garver also singled twice, scoring two runs.
*NOTES — OF Zack Granite, who was optioned to Rochester, went 0-5 in his first game back as a Red Wing. RHP Kyle Gibson was recalled by the Minnesota Twins…Rochester is batting .144 (13-for-90) with runners in scoring position in the last 13 games since July 23…ByungHo Park is batting .324 (57-for-176) with 12 doubles, two triples, six homers and 29 RBI since June 17. He is tied for the league lead with 62 hits since June 9. Park has reached base safely in 11 straight games and 24 of his last 26 games since July 7…Rochester is 49-11 when scoring first and leads the International League with an .817 winning percentage when plating the first run this season.
