Rochester scores 4 times in the 10th to post a 5-1 victory over the Mud Hens.
TOLEDO, OHIO — The Rochester Red Wings notched a rare victory here over the Toledo Mud Hens on Friday night as ByungHo Park’s 2-run double in the 10th inning propelled the visitors from the Flower City to a 5-1 victory.
Park ripped a 2-run double in the top of the 10th inning that scored Byron Buxton and Matt Hague. Later in the rally, the WIngs tacked on a pair of insurance runs when Daniel Palka smacked an RBI triple, and then came home on a single by Tommy Field.
Buxton homered and singled, scoring two runs in the contest in his first rehab game with Rochester.
Mason Melotakis (2-0) earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief for the Red Wings. Tim Melville started on the mound for Rochester and scattered 5 hits over 7 innings. He gave up 1 run, walked 1, and struck out 11 hitters. D.J. Baxendale hurled the 10th for the Wings.
The series resumes Saturday night, and then Sunday after before the Wings return to Frontier Field on Tuesday in a big 3-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
With the win, Rochester improved to 4-1 against Toledo this season.
*NOTES — OF Byron Buxton has been sent to Rochester to begin a rehab assignmenttoday. The Minnesota Twins traded C John Ryan Murphy to Arizona for LHP Gabriel Moya on Thursday. C Anthony Recker, acquired from Atlanta with Jaime Garcia on July 24, was transferred from Double-A Chattanooga to take Murphy’s roster spot. Recker was outrighted off the 40-man yesterday. Rochester has already passed last year’s roster move total of 124 with the eight moves the last five days.The Minnesota Twins have the second-best overall winning percentage among their minor league clubs with a .582 mark as the seven teams have gone 302-217. Every level is over .500. Only the Yankees system (.594, 343-234) has a better overall record.
