Rochester had a record snowfall of 15.6 inches recorded at the airport yesterday, breaking the old record of 8.2 inches set in 1993. The National Weather Service spotter report says we had more than 20 inches since the storm began on Monday night as of this morning, with more snow coming.

Spotters reported more than 13 inches in Marion, Wayne County; 15.5 inches in Medina, in Orleans County and 12.5 inches in Geneva, Ontario County. Livingston County got off lighter with Avon getting eight.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8:00 this evening, with four to six more inches expected by then, and another inch in flurries overnight.

The strong low pressure system that makes up a nor-easter is now over Maine, moving towards the Canadian Maritime Provinces. It’s slowly weakening. As it moves away, the snow gradually tapers off for the Rochester area. But lingering lake effect snow and gusty winds will continue, meaning snow will blow and drift for some time.

Temperatures start warming tomorrow, and by Saturday we’ll be back to 40 degrees and all this will be melting. But temperatures will stay well below normal until then.
