Rochester routs the Jamestown Jackals, 103-65.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester RazorSharks remained undefeated in the Premier Basketball League as they coasted to a 103-65 victory over the Jamestown Jackals on Sunday afternoon at the Blue Cross Arena.
Contrary to how most games have begun this year, the Sharks (6-0) started out hot, scoring 10 points before the Jackals could put in a single basket.
Dele Coker dominated in the paint, but got into foul trouble early with three in the first quarter after some frustrating calls. Jordan Railey recorded all three of his blocks in the first period as well.
The defense remained solid through the second quarter, but Deverell Biggs came off the bench with 12 points and 3 assists to get the offense firing on all cylinders. Unfortunately that was his only playing time as he received his second technical foul as the half ended, disqualifying him for the remainder of the game.
Rochester led 60-26 at intermission, holding Jamestown to a 25% field goal percentage to the Sharks’ 56%.
The offense slowed a bit for the Sharks in the second half, but the defense did not. The Jackals shot much better in the half, but simply could not slow the Sharks scoring enough to make a difference. The Jackals abysmal 0-16 from beyond the arc did not help them at all.
Melvin Council was the leading scorer and pnamed Player of the Game with 19 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Sidney Holmes pulled down 15 rebounds and had 3 steals, solidifying the defensive end. Josh Chichester also had 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Corey Allmond hit 4 three-pointers to contribute to his 16 points, and Rashard McGill was the final player in double digits, with 10 points.
Sunday afternoon was Orest Hrywnak Day at the Blue Cross Arena for the RazorSharks game. A ceremony was held prior to the start of the game to commemorate the late, great “Captain Cash,” as so many called him during his radio days. In his memory, a jersey was retired donning the number U2, Orest’s favorite band.
Sharks’ owner, Dr. Sev Hrywnak had some kind words to say about his brother and thanked all the fans for coming out to remember and celebrate his life. It was a great way to honor the man who worked so hard to make the RazorSharks what they are today.
Rochester goes on the road for their next two matchups on Feb. 10 and 11. They will face the Ohio Bootleggers in the first and take on the Kentucky Mavericks the following day. Live video streams and stat updates will be provided on razorsharks.com.
The Sharks return to the Blue Cross Arena on Feb. 16 to take on the Chautauqua Hurricane. Tickets now are on sale at the box office, or by calling our office at 585-232-9190.
