Defending PBL Champion Rochester will face the Chautauqua Hurriane at the BCA.
The Rochester RazorSharks open their 12th professional season on Saturday, Dec. 31, at 7 pm at the Blue Cross Arena against the Chautauqua Hurricane.
Reigning league MVP, Jerice Crouch and the Sharks will take on a Chautauqua team they faced twice last season, beating them by large margins in each. Crouch was the leading scorer in the first game with 19 points and Corey Allmond led the second meeting with 29 points, including 7 three-pointers.
In addition to eight returning players, Rochester welcomes four new faces, ready to compete for another PBL title. Jordan Railey is a 7’0 center out of Washington St. who spent last season with the Philadelphia 76ers D-League Affiliate, the Delaware 87ers. Dominic Woodson is a big bodied, 6-foot-11 center who spent his college career at Memphis and Tennessee. Both players have the potential to become dominant players and cause a number of problems for opposing teams once they settle in. Also new to the team are guards Deverell Biggs and John Ivy. Biggs spent time at Nebraska and Texas Southern, while Ivy is a local star out of SUNY Brockport.
Led this season by former NBA D-League first teamer, Edwin Ubiles, Chautauqua comes into 2017 with a completely revamped roster and are looking to make a statement early. Ubiles, a 6’6 guard/forward out of Siena College, earned D-League First Team and Rookie of the Year honors in 2012 with the Dakota Wizards, D-League affiliate of the Washington Wizards. He signed a 10-day contract with the NBA’s Washington Wizards in that same year, and appeared in four games. Ubiles has also played for teams in France, Israel, Puerto Rico, and Japan. Ubiles and the Hurricane will hope to upset the reigning champs in their season opener at the Blue Cross Arena.
Tipoff for game one of the PBL season will be at 7:00pm at the Blue Cross Arena. Kids under 18 as well as employees from select local Rochester businesses will be granted free general admission to the game. There will be ticket and merchandise giveaways, cash prizes, halftime All-Star Skills Challenge for six lucky kids, and much, much more.
