Rochester starts the NAPB season 0-3.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester RazorSharks dropped a heartbreaker Sunday night to the Ohio Cardinals in their third straight loss to start the 2018 season.
The newly formed North American Premier Basketball League clearly has shown a very high level of competition that even the Sharks are struggling to adjust to. Sunday night was Rochester’s closest game to this point, losing by just 4 points, 97-93.
The Sharks had a lead down the stretch that reached 9 points, but a questionable no-call on a fairly clear goaltending play went in favor of the Cardinals, which may have played an important role in shifting the momentum. With 30 seconds left in the game, Ohio guard Jesse Hardin Jr. hit a massive three-pointer from way beyond the arc, breaking the tie and the RazorSharks simply couldn’t respond.
Leading the way for Ohio was forward Richie Gordan III with a 24-point, 10 rebound double-double. Trailing him was guard Bernard Parks with 23 points of his own. D.J. Blanks had a game high 4 steals.
For Rochester, Nick Waddell was the leading scorer with 17, while also adding 7 rebounds. Rashard McGill had 16 points followed by Matt Hart’s 15. Hart, John Ivy, and Melvin Council each added 3 steals. Jordan Railey led the Sharks with 10 rebounds and had a game high 2 blocks.
The RazorSharks will travel south this weekend to face the Kentucky Thoroughbreds in a two-game weekend series. Rochester and Kentucky will face off at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday. Links to watch the game will be available on our website and social media outlets as game-time approaches.
The Sharks will not return home until Jan. 22, at 7:05 pm as they take on the Kansas City Tornados for the first time.
