Rochester beats Jamestown, 101-89, to secure home court advantage in the upcoming playoffs.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Rochester RazorSharks won the Premier Basketball League regular season title with a 16-2 record following a 101-89 victory over the Jamestown Jackals on Sunday afternoon at Jamestown Community College.

The Sharks will have home court advantage in the upcoming PBL playoffs as they will open against the fourth place Jackals on Sunday, April 2 at 2 pm at the Blue Cross Arena.

The second place Kentucky Mavericks will face No. 3 Ohio Bootleggers in the other semifinal matchup on April 2. The two winners will advance to the Best-of-3 PBL Finals later that week.

The game against the Jackals was a tight throughout the first quarter until Rochester pulled away to take a 6-point lead into period two. Corey Allmond found his stroke early, hitting three shots from deep, plus a couple layups. He finish the period with 13 points before getting a full quarter of rest in the second.

Jamestown bounced right back in the second, outscoring the Sharks 26-21 with help from forward Oswinn Hines, who led the first half with 14 points. Deverell Biggs had a nice quarter for the Sharks with 8 points and 3 assists. Heading into intermission, Rochester held a 1-point lead.

The third stanza turned into a three-fest, with Allmond hitting 5 more to key the RazorSharks’ 39-point period. The Sharks also held fast on the defensive side of the ball, giving them a commanding 85-66 lead going into the final quarter.

The fourth was better for the Jackals, but they only outscored the Sharks two points.

Allmond was the John Betlem Heating and Cooling Player of the Game with 30 points. He went 8-for-11 from 3-point range, bringing the team’s shooting percentage up to 39%. Both his 30 points and 8 threes are individual highs for the RazorSharks this season.

Jerice Crouch and Biggs added 15 points apiece, with Crouch also dishing out 7 assists. Sidney Holmes led the Sharks with 9 rebounds and Tomas Vazquez added a couple blocks.

If the RazorSharks win their semifinal game, they will play host to Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 of the final series. Dates for those potential games will be announced at a later date.
