Rochester improves to 5-0 on the season with a 128-77 victory over the Hurricane.
FREDONIA, N.Y. — The Rochester RazorSharks overcame a tight first quarter to roll to a 128-77 victory over the Chautauqua Hurricane on Thursday night in Premier Basketball League action at SUNY Fredonia.
In a turn-about from the first meeting, which was won by the Sharks, 128-75, Chautauqua was able to take the early lead and hang on for much longer than in the first matchup. At the end of the opening quarter, Josh Chichester had a buzzer-beater put-back to give Rochester its first lead of the contest, 24-23.
The second quarter also was a fairly good one, until Melvin Council found his stroke and led the Sharks on a run that sent the team into halftime leading 61-40. Council tallied 15 points in the half, and Chichester added 9 points plus 4 rebounds.
The second half was much different as the Sharks figured it all out and began dominating the contest. Jordan Railey was an absolute force in the third quarter, scoring 13 points and blocking three shots. The Sharks’ lead kept growing as the Hurricane’s first half leading scorer, Tyquan Stroman, got into foul trouble.
Melvin Council finished as the Sharks’ leading scorer with 18 points, followed by Deverell Biggs, who had 17.
The John Betlem Heating and Cooling Player of the Game was Jordan Railey with 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Chichester recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had 3 steals.
For the Hurricane, former NBA D-League star Edwin Ubiles led the way with 21 points. Stroman finished with 19 for Chautauqua.
The RazorSharks remain on top of the PBL standings at 5-0.

Rochester returns home on Sunday to play the second place Jamestown Jackals. Tipoff will be at 2 pm at the Blue Cross Arena.
The game will be held in honor of our dear friend Orest Hrywnak, who passed away this past summer. Orest was the brother of Sharks owner Dr. Sev Hrywnak and was a major contributor in bringing the team to the level they are at today. He was also very active in the Rochester community as a radio promoter who seemed to know just about everyone in town. Thanks to the management at the Blue Cross Arena, general admission to Sunday’s game will be free to all.
