Rochester is striving for its fourth consecutive PBL Championship this season.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After a full week of two-a-days, the end of the line has come for a handful of Rochester RazorShark hopefuls. With the help of his coaching staff, Head Coach Chris Iversen has made his final cuts to the training camp roster. Iversen and his staff selected the twelve players they think will give the Sharks their best chance at a PBL Championship four-peat. The final roster includes eight returners from the 2016 title winning team in addition to four new faces. Returning players include Jerice Crouch, Corey Allmond, Dele Coker, Melvin Council, James Helton, Sidney Holmes, Josh Chichester, and Rashard McGill.
One new player hoping to make in impact is local college star, John Ivy. Ivy played four years at SUNY Brockport and was drafted by the Sharks following the PBL Combine this past September in Indianapolis. Ivy will compete for time with fellow guards Jerice Crouch, Rashard McGill, Melvin Council, and first year guard Deverell Biggs.
Biggs is a 6’1 guard out of Texas Southern. He last played for the Omaha Chargers out of the National Basketball League of America (NBLA), where he averaged 19.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Prior to playing at Texas Southern, Biggs suited up for the University of Nebraska, West Texas College, and earned NJCAA All-America honors at Seward County Community College.
The third new face to the RazorSharks organization is seven foot center, Jordan Railey. Last season Railey played for the Delaware 87ers, the NBA D-League affiliate for the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to his professional career, he attended Iowa State before transferring to Washington State, where he finished out his final two seasons of eligibility. He will compete for time with returning big men Sidney Holmes, Dele Coker, and Josh Chichester, as well as fellow newcomer Dominic Woodson.
Dominic Woodson is a 6’11, 270 pound center out of the University of Tennessee. Out of high school, Woodson was an ESPN Top 100 recruit out of Austin, TX. He signed with the University of Memphis, but transferred after his first season. He is a big bodied, physical talent who could end up being a difference maker in the post.
The RazorSharks’ home opener will take place on New Year’s Eve, next Saturday at 7 pm at the Blue Cross Arena. Kids under 18 will receive FREE admission when accompanied by an adult.
