The Radisson Hotel in downtown Rochester will pay a $1.8 million settlement to resolve a suit filed by hotel workers who charged they were cheated out of tips New York State law says they should have been paid.

A press release from the law firm of Thomas and Solomon says this is a win for the banquet workers who saw the hotel keep their gratuities. Checks will go to more than 200 workers who joined in the class-action lawsuit. About a third of the money goes to the lawyers. Some of the lead plaintiffs will get as much as $10,000 and others smaller amounts.

Thomas and Solomon says the Radisson applied a mandatory service charge for its banquet facilities but kept that money instead of giving it to the workers as tips. The suit charged that was a violation of state labor law, and the courts agreed.

Radisson officials have not yet commented.
