A Rochester man has been charged with second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the murder of another Rochester man on Sunday Afternoon. Police say the murder of 46-year-old Jan Perez was linked to the illegal drug trade.
Police found Perez lying in North Plymouth Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting at 12:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation led officers to 29-year-old Parolee Justin Singleton, who was identified as the alleged murderer. Singleton was spotted on Lyell Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. and taken into custody. Singleton was prohibited from owning a weapon as a parolee with four prior felony convictions. He was released on parole April 15.
