Attorneys representing the family of Daniel Prude filed a federal civil case against the City of Rochester Monday. The case charges civil rights violations and wrongful death in the Prude case.

The case involves the city and half-a-dozen Rochester police officers who were involved in restraining Prude on Jefferson Avenue a year ago. He died a week after he was held to the ground and fell unconscious during a psychotic incident.

A grand jury decided not to indict any of the seven officers involved in the incident.

The filing seeks to compensate Prude’s family of five children on grounds that the city violated Prude’s constitutional and common law rights.
