News that no officers would be indicted in the death of Daniel Prude last year brought hundreds of demonstrators back to Rochester streets Tuesday night.

They rallied in the evening at the spot on Jefferson Avenue where police detained Prude, leading to his loss of consciousness and eventual death. They marched, calling for change, to the Child Street police substation where they held a rally, then moved onto I-490, slowing traffic as they marched along the westbound lanes to downtown.

They rallied again outside the public safety building, where there was a faceoff briefly with police before the demonstration ended shortly before midnight.

The marchers were peaceful and there were no arrests. No injuries were reported and no rubber bullets or pepper spray were used.

In a statement released early in the morning, police said officers showed “incredible composure” while being confronted by protesters.
