Federal prosecutors have moved to seize more than $800,000 in cash, luxury cars and the home of Pittsford Dr. Muhammad Cheema, alleging they were obtained through fraud and used in money laundering.
The U.S. Attorney for Western New York charged Dr. Cheema last month with health care fraud and making false statements. He’s accused of routinely billing health insurance providers at the highest level for his patients and upcoding their office visits to make it look as though he was providing services he didn’t actually provide. He repeatedly prescribed drugs to an undercover investigator without actually examining the patient.
Dr. Cheema is also accused of claiming to be a board-certified psychiatrist when he is not.
