Rochester Gas and Electric says it was a steam leak beneath the Civic Center Plaza that cut power to a number of Monroe County facilities on Monday, causing trials to be suspended at the Hall of Justice.

County communications says power went out at several downtown buildings including the Hall of Justice, City Place, the County Crime Lab, the Public Safety Building and Jail and Frontier Field.

The Crime Lab, PSB and the jail continued running on backup generators. The Hall of Justice shut down and evacuated and did City Place.

RG&E went to work on the problem and found the steam leak had caused water to get into electrical vaults, damaging the equipment. Everything should be back to normal Tuesday.
