Post-Christmas brawls were reported in malls around the nation Monday night, including two here in Rochester that resulted in a dozen arrests.
Greece Police say they arrested five people Monday night after three fights broke out inside the Mall at Greece Ridge, one caught on video and posted to social media by an onlooker. All were in or near the food court and involved groups of young men. Police dispersed them and a crowd of onlookers.
At about the same time, a similar situation developed at the Marketplace in Henrietta. Two groups of individuals were seen on security camers shouting at each other in the food court and blocking pedestrian traffic. The shouting escalated to throwing metal chairs at each other, and finally a woman pulled a knife and began menacing members of the other group.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Tahkela Moore was arrested for threatening with the knife. Five women and one man ended up being arrested for menacing and disorderly conduct. All were released on appearance tickets and banned from Wilmorite property.
After the other arrests, a 12th woman was arrested after refusing to leave and continued loud cursing.
