The Rochester Police Locust Club, the patrol officers union, has gone to court to delay a state-ordered release of officers’ disciplinary records. They argue not enough time has been spent to make sure personal information is redacted before the city posts the information in an online database.
The city answers that this is an attempt to keep Rochester citizens in the dark.
The state recently repealed Civil Rights Law 50A, which made disciplinary records of officers confidential. The city previously announced that it would put the information into an online database for anyone to research. They planned to do so this month. The union said that didn’t leave time to review the material and remove any strictly personal or incorrect information.
