Rochester Police say a mother has admitted intentionally drowning her child in a bathtub. They’ve charged 25-year-old Markiya Mitchell of Rochester with Second Degree Murder.
Police say they were called to 31 Locust Street for a report of an unresponsive infant and were told the child was found in the tub in that condition. The baby was immediately taken to Rochester General Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Markiya Mitchell was questioned at the Public Safety Building and allegedly admitted to intentionally drowning the baby. She’s being arraigned on the murder charge, and a grand jury may recommend additional charges.
Police say Mitchell also has a seven-year-old child who is now being cared for by another family member.
