Rochester police have released the name of the officer involved in this month’s fatal shooting outside the Open Door Mission.
He was Officer Matthew Drake, a 13½ year veteran of the department who is on administrative duty. Police released body-work camera footage of the incident last week.
Tyshawn Jones refused orders to drop a knife he was using to cut himself and threaten officers, and he advanced repeatedly on officers who backed away. He eventually ran at the officers, and Drake fired his service weapon.
