Rochester police charged a city man with two counts of assault Wednesday after he shot two people with a BB gun inside a church soup kitchen.

Police arrested 37-year-old Antonio Vargas after he got into an argument with a deacon of the church and a volunteer while waiting to get a meal. He allegedly pulled the BB gun and shot them both, causing non life-threatening injuries. Police described their injuries as minor. Both were treated at the scene.

Police say several dozen people were in the Christ Church soup kitchen on Lawn Street at the time.
