Pittsford LogoA report from the Pittsford Town Board says it’s time for a complete renovation of the Spiegel Community Center.

Councilwoman Mary Gehl Doyle wrote the report. She says long-deferred maintenance on the building has left it needing more than $6 million in repairs. She says for another $3.2 million, the town can have what amounts to a new community center inside the walls of the old building.

The renovation will cost about $9.3 million dollars versus more than $16 million for a brand-new building.

Doyle says renovation will give the town a modern facility and also preserve an historic landmark for the community.

Pittsford will schedule a referendum later this year for approval to fund the project.
