The Pittsford Central School District has announced it will go forward with full day kindergarten next fall.

District officials and State Senator Rich Funke said the state is reimbursing Pittsford Central for the first year of full-day kindergarten, and partial costs for the second and third years. That will let the district cover the startup costs of getting the program off the ground. The package is worth more than $1.5 million dollars.

Superintendent Michael Pero said he’s delivering a “huge thank you” to Senator Funke, school parents and staff who lobbied, signed petitions and made thousands of calls to urge passage of the funding measure. Pero says full-day kindergarten means less stress and more time for students to embrace Kindergarten learning standards that were designed for a full-day program.
