A Pittsford psychiatrist has pleaded guilty to a charge of health care fraud, after federal prosecutors say he submitted claims for some 5,000 psychiatric procedures that he never performed.
Dr. Muhammad Cheema, 47, faces up to ten years in prison when he’s sentenced in October.
Prosecutors say Dr. Cheema submitted the false claims to a number of insurance companies between 2013 and 2017, netting more than $200,000 he wasn’t entitled to. Investigators caught him by watching people come and go from his office and comparing them with the patient schedule he claimed.
