The Pittsford man accused of shoving an autistic cross country runner to the ground in Cobb’s Hill Park has turned himself in to Rochester Police.
Martin MacDonald was arrested this morning at his lawyer’s office. A City Court judge signed a warrant for his arrest yesterday on a charge of second degree harassment. Bail was set at $500. He’ll be arraigned tomorrow (Fri.) in City Court.
The confrontation last month between the 57-year-old white suburban man and the black 15-year-old from Syracuse began during a cross country invitational at Cobb’s Hill. Chase Coleman was running with his Corcoran High School team when he got confused about the route and separated from the other runners.
A Rochester Police report says MacDonald got out of his car and tackled the teenager because he thought his wife was about to be mugged. The report of the Monroe County deputy who first interviewed MacDonald says the couple was already out of their car when Chase Coleman approached them, and MacDonald believed the autistic and nonverbal teenager was either high on drugs or mocking him.
